When people think about postpartum OCD, they're often thinking about a mom checking the locks of the door over and over again, but that's not actually what it looks like. It looks like standing over the crib, checking the baby's breathing again, even though you just checked a minute ago. It looks like avoiding the stairs because a scary thought pops in, like, what if I drop the baby downstairs? It looks like replaying a tiny moment in your head all day, wondering if somehow you said the wrong thing. It looks like Googling the same question over and over, just trying to get a little reassurance. It looks like feeling terrified of your own thoughts and asking yourself, what kind of mom thinks these things? If this is happening to you, you're not crazy. Your brain is just stuck in a threat detection mode. And unfortunately, the more you try to think your way out of the fear, the louder it tends to get. But you're not broken. your nervous system is just overwhelmed and with the right support it can calm down.
