If you feel like you're out of the newborn phase, but you're still waking up multiple times a night, there's nothing wrong with you and nothing wrong with your baby. Sleep doesn't magically fix itself as baby grows. And the idea that your baby should be sleeping through the night now, that's just not how a lot of babies work. So here's what's actually happening. Babies and toddlers wake up in the middle of the night for so many reasons. Developmental leaps, teething, illness, wanting to crawl, wanting to walk, language bursts, and needing that reassurance in the middle of the night is because their brain is exploding with new skills. But for moms, the exhaustion really hits harder over time because sleep deprivation is cumulative, right? Your nervous system never can fully reset between all these stages. So even small nighttime wakes feel like a shock to the system. There's a reason why they use sleep deprivation as a form of torture, but it doesn't mean you're failing. It means that you've been in survival mode for like months and your body hasn't had any chance to recover. Every baby's sleep story looks different. There's no like normal timeline. I wish there was. But you're not failing just because you're still not getting sleep every night.
